What is the AWIEF Academic Grant Program?

The AWIEF Academic Grant Program empowers schools specializing in architectural woodworking. Annually, we provide up to $100,000 to these institutions, with a vision to disburse $1,000,000 over the next decade.

We prioritize not-for-profit schools that excel in architectural woodworking, emphasizing technological advancements and skillful craftsmanship. This support ensures that the industry's future aligns with AWI's standards of innovation and excellence.

Eligibility Criteria


Institution Type
Not-for-profit secondary and post-secondary schools.
Program Qualification
Must have a recognized architectural woodworking program.
Development Criteria
Schools should demonstrate significant technological advancements and skills specific to architectural woodworking.
Custom-made wood left exposed upon completion of a build
Examples include cabinets, doors, panels, and standing and running trim.
Exclusions:
  • Flooring
  • Shingles
  • Exposed roof decking
  • Ceiling
  • Siding
  • Overhead-type doors
  • Structural wood trusses and rafters.
